Agreement Aims to Further CCHL Dedication to Hockey Development in Eastern Ontario

The Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL) signed a partnership with ICEBERG Sports Analytics becoming the first junior hockey league in Canada to implement advanced analytics technology league-wide, bringing the development of elite hockey talent in the league to a new level.

The CCHL announced DATE that they have partnered with ICEBERG Sports Analytics, a global Sports Technology company headquartered in Toronto, Ontario. ICEBERG will become the official data and advanced analytics provider for the CCHL and its developmental league - Hockey Eastern Ontario (HEO) Midget AAA - for the 2019-20 season.

ICEBERG uses artificial intelligence and computer vision algorithms to automatically track both players and the puck, building extensive data sets that provide deep objective insights and enhance efficiencies at coaching and managerial levels by allowing teams to eliminate mundane tasks and allocate more time to analyzing team play, gametrends, and individual player-performance.

CCHL Commissioner, Kevin Abrams, had this to say about the partnership,.

“This is an extremely exciting partnership for our league. The video and analytics components of ICEBERG’s software will act as great tools for our coaches, players, management and league staff. We believe this partnership strengthens our commitment to player development and player advancement in the CCHL.”

Using the CCHL and HEO video feeds, ICEBERG will produce advanced metrics surrounding shooting, passing, player shifts, transitions, powerplay, penalty kill, faceoffs and much more. These metrics will allow coaches to cross-check what their eyes are telling them about the game so they can evaluate whether certain in-game decisions were right or wrong and correct accordingly.

Along with members of the CCHL’s front office, each individual team will have access to ICEBERG data on players in the CCHL as well as the HEO Midget AAA. This data can be used for advanced scouting reports, optimizing lineups and matchups, as well as player safety. It can also be used to identify roster gaps, to assess player and team strengths / weaknesses, and to evaluate special teams play.

“We are extremely excited to partner with a premier junior league in Canada,” said ICEBERG Vice President of Global Business Development, Scott Vargas. “Through analytics and advanced data our mission is to advance player development and provide coaching solutions in the sport of hockey. It was a natural fit for us to start working with one of Hockey Canada’s best developmental leagues.”

The CCHL 2019-20 regular season kicks off September 5th, 2019 with the Pembroke Lumber Kings visiting the Kanata Lasers.

Headquartered in Ottawa, ON the CCHL is a Canadian Junior A hockey league operating out of Eastern Ontario as a member of the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL). The league is entering its 58th season.
